150 PSI sounds strong. It tells you almost nothing

Max PSI is the highest pressure the pump can reach in a small space, given enough time. It is not speed. Most car tires run somewhere around 30 to 40 PSI, so a 100 PSI unit and a 160 PSI unit both have plenty to spare. The number that decides how long you stand in the cold is airflow.
Pressure is how hard. Airflow is how much
Think of a garden hose. Pressure is how hard the water pushes. Flow is how fast the bucket fills. A tire is a big bucket that needs only a modest push. Two inflators from the same brand show it. The pocket-size AstroAI L7 claims 150 PSI. The corded AstroAI AIRUN H lists 100 PSI. By the maker's own numbers, the 100 PSI unit is the faster one.

The L7 listing gives no airflow figure. Working backward from its 1.5 minute claim, my model puts it level with a unit that states about 20 L/min. That is an estimate, not a spec.
When max PSI does matter
- Road bikes. Narrow road tires often run 80 PSI or more. The air volume is tiny, so airflow barely matters, but the pump has to reach the pressure. You also need a Presta adapter. Five of the six listings name one in the box. I did not see one named in the AstroAI L7 bullets I read, so check before you order.
- RV, trailer and heavy truck tires that run 65 to 80 PSI or more. A small pump slows to a crawl up there. Look for a unit whose maker names that kind of tire, not just a big PSI figure. See the truck and RV guide.
As a rule of thumb, I'd want the max PSI to be well above my target so the pump is not working at its limit. Past that, more PSI buys nothing.
How to read airflow on a listing
- Find L/min or CFM. One CFM is about 28.3 L/min. If the listing gives neither, look for a time with a named tire size and pressures. If it gives neither of those, you are buying blind.
- Check what pressure the airflow was measured at. Almost always it is free flow, at 0 PSI. The ETENWOLF Vortex S6 listing says so in plain words: 42 L/min at 0 PSI. Real airflow into a tire at 30 PSI is a good deal less. The calculator accounts for that.
- Trust the bullets over the spec table. On the AIRUN H listing I read, the bullets say up to 35 L/min and the spec table further down says 1.23 liters per minute. The bullets say 2.2 pounds and the table says 1.76. Spec tables on Amazon are often filled in carelessly. A claim with a tire size and a time next to it is the one to go by.
- Be wary of "3X faster". Faster than what is rarely said.
Noise
The spec tables I read list 76 dB for the VIAIR 88P, 78 dB for the Airmoto and the ETENWOLF S6, and 80 dB for both AstroAI units. None says how far away it was measured, so I would not choose between them on those numbers. All small piston compressors are loud. A faster unit is loud for less time.
